30 Apr 2015 | Cebu City, Philippines —
On our way home from dinner at Lihana Barbeque, we paid a visit to this bright, colorful and eye-catching cafe located at the corner of Escario and Gorordo streets, just across Golden Peak Hotel.
Entering the place felt like going in to a club, the door is on the first floor and the cafe is on the second. A male staff opened the door for us and a security guard was right beside him. A big and vibrant masterpiece of Pablo Picasso “Girl Before A Mirror”, which he painted in March 1932, welcomed us. I expected to see more of his works while we were going up the staircase.
But to my surprise, there were 3 huge teddy bears in different colors sitting on the couch. The dining tables reminded me of Coffee Prince and Cafe Talk Library, where there are mezzanines and double deckers.
We picked the table at the farthest left of the cafe facing another piece of art called Tete d’une Femme Lisant (Head of a Woman Reading) painted in 1953.
We had 2 kinds of smoothies — Matcha and Banana Strawberry. I was thinking that it would be more interesting if they associated their menu with Picasso’s artworks like Don Quixote’s Cappuccino, La Vie Latte, or the like.
While waiting for our orders, which took them about 20 minutes, we almost finished a short game of scrabble. Danny gave up after I got the word “quest” with a triple word score.
I was baffled with the presentation, it looked as if a novice barista had prepared it. But I was quite relieved that the taste wasn’t that bad.
